Characters

People are the most interesting subjects to me. Their movements, individuality and mystery are always a challenge to capture. Many of the characters start out in my sketchbook. From there, they can end up in a painting as solo or in groups.

I think of the people I create as characters on a stage with roles to play. Like actors, they may appear in multiple paintings. In fact, a few have become my buddies that show up regularly to fill in where strategically needed, or just for the fun of it. This group of characters are tied together by their “clean” edges. Other characters with a more “painterly” approach are included in “Abstraction.”ngs.
