Presents a workshop by Ruth Ellen Hoag:

“Contemporary Composition and Color for the Acrylic Painter”

January 11-13, 2019: Friday 6-8, Saturday & Sunday 9-3:30

Ruth’s professional training was in music with a major in French horn from Manhattan School of Music. Approaching music from a lyrical point of view during her years as a musician was preparation for her second career as an artist. Ruth says: “In both art forms, I find I have to find an inner peace where I can clearly see a pathway to the creative task at hand. Performing music is quite the same as being in the moment of inspiration as the brush is put to painting. But it takes practice. I think a lot about finding a unique structure for each piece, to allow something different and unexpected to show up; to describe what I’ve not seen before, where individual voices come together to create the final composition.”

In this workshop, Ruth will present a look at what contemporary artists are doing to create unique works that captures the imagination. How do we build technical skills in the acrylic medium and then use these skills to our advantage?  Whether you work from an expressive mode, or see the world through a strong design perspective, ideas for creating contemporary realism, as well as, non-objective abstraction, will be the topic of the workshop through developing color sense and creative composition.
